Cathy Medeiros

Leading the Inclusion Journey- How to Get Started and Make an Impact

Vice President-Global Inclusion & Diversity/ Executive Coach at Eaton

I am currently providing internal executive coaching services and supporting Leadership 360 Assessments. Prior to this role I was privileged to be appointed to the newly created leadership position leading inclusion and diversity in 2012 when Eaton established its first office of inclusion and diversity (I&D). Since that time I have been responsible for providing leadership in guiding Eaton’s global strategy to achieve the company’s strategic business objectives and its goal of being a model of inclusion and diversity in its industry.

Under my leadership, Eaton has had many successes including increasing the diversity of Eaton’s board of directors to 53.5 percent total diversity, representation among Eaton’s senior executive leadership to 27 percent female and 31 percent minority, uncommon within Eaton’s industry peer group, and increasing diversity in all levels of leadership. Eaton’s strategy for creating a culture of inclusion has been supported through the launch of seven employee resource groups with 7,500 members across six global regions. I also spearheaded the launch of a global mentorship program for women and people of color that has allowed over 500 mentor/mentee pairs to connect, build relationships and provide pathways to advancing learning and career development. In addition, more than 2,000 Eaton leaders have completed a leadership development workshop to help them build cultural awareness, personally connect across differences and understand unconscious bias. Also blazing a new trail in Eaton, we paved the way for launching a flexible work system offering employees the opportunity to work in a way that supports work and life effectiveness.

Prior to this role, I held positions as vice president of human resources for Eaton’s Aerospace Group and Parker’s Seal Group and was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources globally, including leadership development, recruitment, employee relations, labor relations, performance management and acquisition integration and divestures.
