Bio

Since 2014, Bruce Hallett has been a co-founder and managing director of Miramar Digital Ventures (MDV).  With over two decades collaborating with technology entrepreneurs, he co-leads MDV investments in mobile software, data security and Artificial Intelligence.  At MDV, Bruce is most closely associated with the firm’s investments in Scopely, Social Native and Syntiant.  He also serves as a Board member or observer for MDV at NetRise, SigmaSight, TeraSpatial and Zadar.

In the 1990s, Bruce was Managing Partner of the Orange County office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison (Brobeck), one of the top tech law firms in the U.S. at that time.  At Brobeck, Bruce managed IPOs, venture financings and liquidity events for high profile technology companies in Southern California, including Broadcom, Buy.com, Exult and Applied Semantics.  From 1998-2000, Bruce also served on Brobeck’s firm-wide executive committee.

Bruce began his career as an investor in 1997, when he was one of three Partners appointed to the investment committee (IC) at Brobeck.  He co-managed deal flow, investment decisions and liquidity events for the IC in companies such as Applied Semantics (acquired by Google in 2003), Broadcom, CMGI and Quest Software.

In 2002, Bruce collaborated with Henry Samueli and other Broadcom executives to start Miramar Venture Partners (MVP) to source and invest in private semiconductor companies that had strategic synergies with Broadcom.  Bruce’s successful MVP investments included Berkana Wireless and Silicon Systems.  A second MVP fund was launched in 2008 by the same team, where Bruce transitioned his investing focus to software, IoT and data-driven startups, including Factual and Scopely.  

Bruce received his BA magna cum laude from UC Irvine and his JD from UCLA.  From 2007-2010, he was Chair of the Chief Executive Roundtable at UC Irvine and from 2010-2012 Bruce was on the University of California Board of Regents.  He currently serves on the Board of Octane, the Advisory Board of UC Irvine’s Cove Funds II and III, and was an advisor to UC Presidents Michael Drake and Janet Napolitano on the UCOP Innovation Council.
